We are very excited to announce that we have two new members on our Board of Directors! 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐲 & 𝐁𝐞𝐯 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐤.
Margaret is a retired Human Resource Consultant and is involved in a broad range of volunteer activities in the community, including most recently on the Board of the Couchiching Conservancy Land Trust. Her knowledge and experience are perfectly suited to our needs as we enter the operational stage. Bev is a hospice executive who recently retired after more than ten years as the Executive Director of Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville. She has a wealth of knowledge in regards to policies and management of a residential hospice. We are very fortunate to have both of these people joining our team.

Brian Barr is retiring from our Mariposa House Hos

Brian Barr is retiring from our Mariposa House Hospice Board of Directors. Brian is a business person and active community member. He has served on the Board since 2017. His sage business advice was highly valued at Board meetings throughout the process of fundraising and construction of Mariposa House Hospice. The Board gives him a big thank-you for his contributions. His enthusiastic passion for palliative hospice care has been fantastic. We know that he will continue to work with us in the future in many other ways.

Dr. Erika Catford has been Co-Chair of the Maripos

Dr. Erika Catford has been Co-Chair of the Mariposa House Hospice Board of Directors, along with Dr. Si Lowry (both pictured here), since inception in 2017. She has worked tirelessly to bring a residential hospice to Orillia and the surrounding area. Her involvement in the development and practice of palliative care has been extensive. The Board of Directors cannot thank her enough for her time as a member and Co-Chair. We are happy to share that she will now be our Medical Director, overseeing the medical services at our new facility. Dr Si Lowry will take over as Chair.

Sue Morris (Fundraising Committee co-chair), Krist

Sue Morris (Fundraising Committee co-chair), Kristopher Orchard-Campbell (Angel Tree owner/sponsor), and Annalise Stenekes (Executive Director) met at the hospice this past week to officially conclude our 2020 Angel Tree initiative!

For the fourth consecutive year, local business owners Kristopher and Jamie (of O C Emporium Inc/6 Doors Up Interiors) chose Mariposa House Hospice as the beneficiary of the Angel Tree event and we could not be more grateful.

This year, the tree was adorned with over 130 heartfelt messages that were incredibly moving. The entire campaign was virtual and we raised $10,305! A huge thank you to everyone that was involved!

Local resident Ellen Sheepway makes and sells eye

Local resident Ellen Sheepway makes and sells eye pillows. The eye pillows are filled with flaxseed and a few lavender petals to give them a subtle relaxing scent. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬! And, has also donated some of the eye pillows for us to give to our residents. A huge thanks goes to Ellen, as well as Melanie Rimkay, owner of Green River Yoga Studio in Washago for permitting Ellen to sell the pillows at her studio. Also to Dorothy Robichaud and Susan Clark for letting Ellen share her wares with their yoga participants at St. Paul's Centre.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰:
- Put one over your eyes or on your forehead when you lay down to sleep. This will help you fall asleep more quickly and stay asleep throughout the night.
- Use one at the end of your yoga practice during savasana for ultra relaxation.
- Anytime you feel anxious, depressed, or stressed
